Paragliding in Nepal

Paragliding is a relatively new adventure sport in Nepal, and little information is available in tourist guidebooks. Paragliding in this Himalayan country can be a truly wonderful and fulfilling experience for the adventure-seekers. You can experience unparalleled scenic grandeur as you share airspace with Himalayan griffin vultures, eagles, kites, while floating over villages, monasteries, temples, lakes and jungles, with a fantastic view of the majestic Himalayas.

BEST TIME TO FLY

Gliding is a weather dependent sport and the flying season in Nepal commences from November through February, the best months being November and December. By virtue of its latitude and monsoonal climate, the tree line in Nepal is at an incredible 3,900 m above sea level. With conditions milder than summer alpine, these are excellent and constant atmospherics.

The topography and climate of Nepal also make it an ideal destination for all levels of pilots- subtropical conditions provide plenty of thermals and combined with the long valleys common in Nepal, they produce perfect ‘cloud streets’ ideal for paragliders, inviting them to fly along this &quotsky highway&quot. The local microclimate, controlled by the numerous lakes in the valley, is unique, which makes it even better for the glider.

Different types of flying deals-There are various deals for the paragliding enthusiast as well as those checking this sport out for the first time. There is a three-day introductory course for beginners, as well as tandem flights (where you fly with an instructor) for the inexperienced or less brave. At 6000 ft, you sit back in your seat as your qualified pilot takes you on an unforgettable journey. The take-off point for these flights is Sarankot (1592 m), which offers prime views of Phewa Tal and the mountains at sunrise and sunset (provided the skies are clear) the landing is by the lake

Overview

Paragliding in Nepal offers an exhilarating adventure amidst the breathtaking landscapes of the Himalayas. This thrilling activity allows participants to experience the sensation of free flight as they glide through the skies with a paraglider, a lightweight, foot-launched aircraft.

The adventure typically begins with a scenic drive or hike to the take-off point, which is often located on a hilltop overlooking picturesque valleys, lakes, and mountains. Here, participants receive a safety briefing and instructions from experienced paragliding pilots before gearing up for their flight.

Once ready, participants are securely strapped into a harness attached to the paraglider, and the pilot initiates the launch sequence. With a few steps or a short run down the slope, the paraglider catches the wind and lifts off the ground, soaring into the sky.

As the paraglider ascends, participants are treated to breathtaking views of Nepal’s diverse landscapes, including lush forests, terraced hillsides, and snow-capped peaks. The feeling of weightlessness and freedom as they glide through the air is truly exhilarating, providing a unique perspective on the natural beauty of the Himalayas.

During the flight, participants may have the opportunity to experience thermals, rising columns of warm air that can lift the paraglider higher into the sky, allowing for longer and more adventurous flights. Pilots often navigate through these thermals to gain altitude and extend the duration of the flight.

The duration of a paragliding flight in Nepal can vary depending on weather conditions and the chosen flight route, but most flights typically last between 15 to 30 minutes. Some operators also offer longer flights or tandem flights, where participants can fly with an experienced pilot for a more immersive experience.

As the flight comes to an end, participants prepare for the gentle landing, guided by the pilot to a designated landing zone. Upon landing, participants are often filled with a sense of exhilaration and accomplishment, having experienced the thrill of paragliding amidst the stunning landscapes of Nepal.

Paragliding in Nepal is suitable for adventurers of all ages and skill levels, with experienced pilots ensuring safety throughout the flight. Whether it’s for a solo adventure, a tandem flight with a loved one, or simply to experience the joy of flight in the Himalayas, paragliding offers an unforgettable experience that will leave participants with lasting memories of their time in Nepal.
